Too much Too soon

Swiper: Girl seeking boy

Timeline: April 2016

Date Type: In person

The common mistake we make when we first meet someone (who seems to have absolutely NOTHING wrong with them) is that we jump in head first, latch on and don’t want to let go – because it’s hard to meet people that give us hope.

But, holding on too tightly is just suffocating!

My Story:

I met this guy for coffee and immediately the date was doomed for perfection.  My gorgeous blonde standing in front of a string quartet. It was the ultimate meet cute. We both looked at each other wide-eyed and in shock of what the universe had just given us. So hot! This would be the story we would tell our kids, right?

Nope.

We spent 13 hours that first date walking and talking, eating and drinking and hanging with my friends into the wee hours of the night. We fell asleep together and woke up with stars in our eyes.

The next 4 days we were glued to the hip spending nearly 24/7 with each other (playing hooky from work). I invited the man to my birthday party to meet my friends, he setup time for me to meet his friends. OMG too much and we were both guilty of the nonsense!

Day 5, he was scheduled to travel across the country for work.  So, naturally, we had an honest conversation about our relationship and decided on a “to be continued”.

Two weeks later, we saw each other again and picked back up where we had left off. Or, at least we tried. The real world, not the bubble we had created, required things of us. We started bickering like we had been together for months or even years – blaming each other for not making time or for not understanding the life commitments we had.

The madness had to end.

It took 7 hours and two days to break up with him.  He was hell-bent on keeping me – not because he thought the relationship deserved its due – but because he didn’t want to be rejected (let’s be honest, this is the #1 reason why undeserving relationships are resuscitated – avoiding the feeling of rejection).

This relationship could have stood a chance if we both hadn’t jumped in so fast and if we had ended the first date after one cup of coffee.

Take it slow guys. If you go too fast, you may… face plant.
